FAQs About Auto-Save, The Daytime Equivalent of Retinol
Retinol is one of the top dermatologist-recommended ingredients for firm, bright, even skin. But, because this vitamin A derivative makes the skin more sensitive to the sun and UV rays can dilute its effectiveness, its powers are best enjoyed after dark.
That left us (and our Product Development team) wondering: Is there a way to reap the benefits of retinol during the daylight hours, too? Turns out, yes. And that’s how the Auto-Save Advanced Restoring Serum, a.k.a. the daytime equivalent of retinol, was born.
We answer all your questions about the brightening, firming treatment below. Have more? Shoot us an email.
Q: What is the Auto-Save Advanced Restoring Serum?
A: The Auto-Save Advanced Restoring Serum is a lotion-like treatment specifically designed for aging skin and dullness. It firms, brightens, clarifies, and strengthens the skin while working to correct past damage like dark spots. It also provides advanced antioxidant protection to fend off the environmental damage skin is exposed to during the day, such as UV rays, blue light, and pollution.
Q: What are the ingredients and their strengths?
A: 3% microalgae—a vegan ingredient that mimics the effects of collagen—delivers an immediate tightening effect while helping restore firmness over time. It also hydrates and oxygenates the skin cells, speeding up cellular turnover rate for a more even tone and texture.
You’ll also get a 3.8% antioxidant complex featuring ferulic acid, phloretin, and stabilized vitamin C—three ingredients that work together to brighten age spots, soften the appearance of fine lines, and neutralize damaging free radicals that contribute to premature aging.
Q: How long until I see results?
A: Everyone’s skin is different and because products for aging skin and hyperpigmentation have to work deep below the layers of the skin, results can take 4-12 weeks. An overwhelming number of community members saw improvement in their skin in just 30 days, however.
During our consumer perception trial, testers aged 35-65 applied Auto-Save over an eight-week period. These were the results:
94% agree their skin clarity is improved, leaving a healthy, even tone.
90% agree skin's firmness is increased.
84% agree the product improves the appearance of skin damaged by sun exposure.
71% agree their skin is visibly plumped.
Q: Is it made with artificial fragrance?
A: No, we don’t include artificial fragrance in our products as it can cause irritation, redness, and other uncomfortable skin concerns. Any noticeable scent stems from the vitamin C active and should subside shortly after application. Trust us: the results make it more than worth it.
Q: Is it only for mature complexions?
A: Not necessarily. While Auto-Save was designed for aging and dull skin, anyone—at any age—can benefit from it, especially as a defense against premature damage.
Q: I have sensitive skin. Can I use it?
A: Auto-Save is a creamy formula that has been tested on all skin types, including sensitive ones. That being said, if your skin is extra sensitive to ingredients like vitamin C or has a history of allergic reactions, we recommend performing a patch test.
Q: Is it pregnancy-safe?
A: The ingredients found in Auto-Save are considered safe for pregnant and breastfeeding mamas, but we always recommend checking with your doctor if you have concerns.
Q: What makes it “advanced’?
A: Auto-Save’s blend of high-performance actives delivers the benefits of multiple serums in just one product. Its antioxidant-rich formula also helps amplify your sunscreen’s abilities for 360-degree protection. Consider this a one-and-done serum and the only one you need for firm, even, strong skin.
Q: How do I use it?
A: After cleansing, toning, and/or applying any other lightweight, water-based serums, press two pumps into clean, almost-dry skin. Don’t forget the neck and chest. Let it sink in for one minute before moisturizing and applying sunscreen.
Q: Is it only made for daytime?
A: Auto-Save was designed as the daytime equivalent of retinol, but you can certainly apply it at nighttime, too. That said, the antioxidant complex in Auto-Save not only restores skin but also fends off future damage from daily environmental aggressors, which is another reason we recommend it during your morning skincare routine.
For round-the-clock repair and protection, apply Auto-Save during the AM and our Recovery Mode Advanced Night Cream before bedtime.
Q: Can I use it every day?
A: Yes. In fact, we recommend a daily application for the best results. Just don’t forget to protect your glowing, firm skin with a Daily Mineral Sunscreen.
Q: Can I use it around my eyes?
A: You can, just be careful when applying any products near your eyes. If you’re on the hunt for eyecare, we suggest the Vacation Eyes Brightening Eye Gel for dark circles or the Smooth Landing Advanced Retinoid Balm for crow’s feet and sagging skin.
Q: Can I mix it with other serums?
A: You can. If you’re layering, apply Auto-Save after light, water-based serums. The only ingredient we wouldn’t recommend pairing Auto-Save with is retinol since it can irritate the skin when mixed with vitamin C. Save your retinol products—like Press Restart Gentle Retinol Serum—for the PM instead.
Q: What’s the difference between Auto-Save and the Stroke of Brilliance Brightening Serum?
A: While both formulas contain vitamin C and have brightening benefits, Auto-Save uses an advanced formula to target key signs of aging. You certainly don’t need to use both in the same routine, but if you like to double up on antioxidants, it won’t hurt.
Q: Can I use it on my body?
A: Auto-Save is a facial serum but there’s no reason you can’t apply it to other areas, too. If you’re a-okay with retinol, however, we recommend our Retinol Body Lotion to firm sagging skin and treat hyperpigmentation on the knees, shoulders, arms, bum, and anywhere else from the neck down.
If you like Auto-Save, try these too.
