What Is a Facial Toner?
A face toner is a skincare product that helps prep the skin for the rest of your skincare routine so that other products can work more effectively. Toners are thin, light, and have water-like consistency, which helps their ingredients penetrate pores quickly and easily. All skin types can enjoy the benefits of facial toners.
The Benefits of Toner
Depending on the formula and ingredients, a skin toner can offer a variety of benefits to your complexion. Generally speaking, however, facial toners are used to remove hard water residue from the skin after washing your face (hard water can cause dryness, tight skin, inflammation, and acne), rebalance pH, hydrate skin, and catch any leftover makeup, dirt, and other impurities post-cleanse. You’ll reap many of these toner benefits by incorporating our Baby Cheeks Hydrating Milk into your routine. Ideal for sensitive, dry skin types, this toner uses humectants to draw in moisture and leave skin texture soft and smooth. Its coconut water and bamboo extract—rich in vitamins, amino acids, and minerals—nourish the skin. It can be even used in place of your AM cleanse if you’re particularly dry or as an on-the-go way to remove sweat and dirt after a workout.
Acid-based toners on the other hand, such as our Weekend Glow Daily Brightening Solution, can be beneficial if you’re concerned about uneven tone and hyperpigmentation (such as dark spots and acne scars), dullness, bumpy texture, or enlarged pores. This exfoliating treatment features 4 AHAs (lactic acid, azelaic acid, kojic acid, and glycolic acid) along with vitamin C and bearberry extract (an alternative to hydroquinone, which brightens skin but has adverse effects for darker skin tones). Weekend Glow leaves skin bright and glowy while tightening and minimizing the appearance of pores. Best of all, it’s gentle enough to be used every single day without any sting, burn, or tingle.
What is the Correct Way to Apply Toner?
Toner is typically the second step in an AM and/or PM skincare regimen, after cleansing but before applying serums, face masks, and other treatments. To apply, soak a reusable cotton round with toner and sweep across a clean face, neck, and chest—do not wash the toner off afterward.
