What Is Vitamin E?
If you’re intimidated by the words tocopherol or tocopherol acetate on an ingredient list, don’t be. This is just a fancy way of saying vitamin E, a safe, gentle, highly effective ingredient found in skincare. Vitamin E is incredibly versatile; there’s a good chance it’s been added to a majority of your skincare products. Look for it in everything from cleansers and serums to moisturizers and facial oils, like our Sunday Morning Antioxidant Oil-Serum.
Although vitamin E is beneficial for all skin types, it’s particularly useful when added to skincare for dryness or products for aging skin. It’s also a major plus if you have sensitive skin or an inflammatory condition, such as eczema. Vitamin E makes our Gentle Cycle Milky Cleanser so soothing and hydrating.
What Are the Benefits of Vitamin E?
As an antioxidant, vitamin E has the power to fend off free radicals and prevent damage. It also has skin-conditioning capabilities, leaving parched textures silky smooth. If you’re treating hyperpigmentation and acne scars, vitamin E is great to add to your routine. Its protective abilities allow the skin to heal while fending off future damage.
You’ll find sources of vitamin E in existing skincare ingredients, too, such as marula oil. Consistent use of vitamin E can soften skin texture, strengthen the moisture barrier, and smooth fine lines and wrinkles. It can make formulas that otherwise could be harsh, such as retinol, more gentle on the skin. That’s why you’ll find it in The Shortcut Overnight Facial, a treatment that’s sensitive skin-approved.
How to Layer Vitamin E
Vitamin E is a natural, non-toxic ingredient that can be used daily, AM and/or PM. Because it is so gentle, it’s okay to layer it with other vitamin E skincare. It also plays well with all other skin ingredients, but especially vitamin C. These two antioxidants up their protective abilities when used together. That’s because they defend against separate types of UV rays. When mixed together, skin is better protected against the sun (as long as you’re using daily sunscreen, of course). Find sources of both in our Vacation Eyes Brightening Eye Gel.
