How to Use the Overnight Barrier Balm for Dreamy Soft Skin
Like any new arrival, we break down all you need to know about our Overnight Barrier Balm below. Have more questions? Shoot us an email or a DM on Instagram.
Q: What is the Sweet Relief Overnight Barrier Balm?
A: The Overnight Barrier Balm is meant to be the barrier-restoring, hydrating powerhouse of your skincare routine. Using nutrient-dense bacuri and kokum seed butters and antioxidant-rich apricot kernel oil, this hybrid sleeping mask and balm relieves signs of sensitivity like redness, dry patches, and dehydration. It's also dermatologist-tested, sensitive skin-approved, vegan, and cruelty-free.
Q: How do I use the Overnight Barrier Balm?
A: There are two main ways to use Sweet Relief: 1) as an intensive nighttime moisturizer, applied all-over the face or 2) as a spot treatment, selectively applied to dry patches and chapped skin. If you're into skin cycling, you can use it as an intensive moisturizing treatment on your "recovery" nights. No matter how you prefer to use it, simply melt the formula with the warmth of your fingertips and smooth onto the face. Apply as the last step in your routine (in place of your night cream or facial oil), paying special attention to extra dry or sensitized area. No need to rinse off—this breathable formula stays on overnight.
Q: What results can I expect?
A: Sweet Relief will provide immediate hydration to the skin. With continued usage, you can expect to see visible improvement in dehydration lines, redness brought on by irritation, and amplified skin resilience to dry climates, environmental stressors, and moisture loss. Here's what product testers said during Sweet Relief's perception trial:
The Results (based on a two-week trial of people aged 19-60):
- 100% agree it helps lock and seal in moisture.
-
100% agree it supports the skin barrier.
97% say skin felt moisturized the next day.
Q: Is it good for slugging?
A: Yes! Sweet Relief makes a great alternative to petroleum-based ointments to alleviate signs of a damaged moisture barrier. Like other slugging treatments, we recommend using on your "off" night and avoid layering over retinoids and AHAs.
Q: Is it okay for acne-prone or oily skin?
A: We formulate all of our products to avoid a long list of pore-clogging ingredients, as determined by estheticians. Sweet Relief should be a-okay for acne-prone skin (many of the Team Versed testers are acneic), but everyone's skin is different. We always recommend patch testing if you are unsure about a new formula before diving in.
As it is incredibly hydrating, those who are on the oiler side might find layering a moisturizer and Sweet Relief a bit too intense. Instead, try using it as a targeted treatment for areas of excessive dryness.
Q: Can I use this over retinoids and other exfoliating actives?
A: Applying an occlusive product on top of actives like retinol can cause irritation, especially for sensitive skin. That's why we recommend skipping retinoids and products with AHA and BHA acids on the nights you apply Sweet Relief.
Q: Is this for nightly use only, or can I utilize it during the day?
A: Try sticking to just at night. Sweet Relief is incredibly nourishing, and while not sticky, this product might feel too heavy on the skin during the day.
Q: Can this be used on the body?
A: While created for the face, there's no reason you cannot use Sweet Relief as a topical spot treatment for areas of dryness on the body. Our recommended areas of use are elbows, knees, ankles, or anywhere you notice a dry patch.
Q: Is it made with PCR?
A: Yes! Its jar is made with 50% post-consumer recycled plastic and curbside recyclable*. Its paper packaging is FSC-certified, too.*Before you toss anything in your recycling bin, check if the local curbside recycling program for your zip code accepts plastic items that look like our packaging.
